Wikileaks'Cablegate Scandal and Nigeria

We awoke this morning being the 9th of December 2010 to the startling headline on very much all national dailies which read ''Shell Infiltrates Nigerian ministeries With Its Spies''. Such news should not come as a suprise to any person who garduated from a nigerian university or an undergraduate in the social sciences or humaties worth his or her salt. Shell Nigeria is a subcidiary of Royal Dutch Shell which is headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands and has its registered office at shell Place London. The company has been in exsistence since 1903 and therefore was an instrument of colonialism.

With the colonial era way behind us what is now inplace is Neocolonialism and Shell Nigeria is used to foster the principles and ideals of its parent company. Neocolonialism is a term used to describe the use of foreign corporations to foster the ideals and views of its parent nation on that of its host nation. So for Royal Dutch Shell to deny that they have spies in Nigerian ministeries would be a deviation of the norm, because since the end of the cold war the essence of collection of intelligence is no longer for military purposes alone but also for economic and technological advancement. And we all know that without the economic wherewithal no nation can progress technologically, so most nations now focus their intelligence gathering on information that may tip economic gains in ttheir favour.

like i said above, it should not come as a suprise to us that they have spies in our ministeries, the question that should be asked if wether they are alone or if other multinational corporation also have spies in relevant offices and if they do, how highly placed their sources are placed and how these elements have been in the pockets of these multinationals. All we can do now is watch and see what the Nigerian government would do to remedy such acts of espionage.

9ice: The story continues

In the space of a few hours, the Nigerian pop artist (Herein after referred to as Naijapop) 9ice has come under great criticism and has also been defended by bloggers and fans on What are his crimes: Lack of creativity in his new music (According to the writer of the article).

I dear say that in the past year, that the above claim has been the case with Nigerian artist in general except a few who go the extra mile to make their music exceptional. The likes of Eldee, Mode9, Naeto C and even Dbanj (some people may disagree about dbanj, but i feel that for him to have even been nominated for a channel O award for a song like fall In love thats like 2 years old he's worth the mention.) just to name a few, have been in the media recently for just the right reasons. why then should an artist like 9ice be in the media for the wrong reasons? That is the question we should be asking ourselves. i believe that why 9ice is not making music that is up to par is because he lacks motivatio and he is not motivated because of his marital problems that are not so personal anymore. Try as much as we may, we cannot say that his problems have nothing to do with his music, but saying that would be wrong because an artist like 9ice talks about his everyday life on his music. So since he cannot vent about his wife like Eminem does the result becomes what the people are complaining about: sub-par music from a CLASS 1 act like him.

When may also have to consider that he may have changed his style of music for it to be able to appeal to a much wider audience and not just the youth, cos some tracks on his latest album TRADITION are leaning more to the type of songs played by older folks (Faji music according to my yoruba brothers). Which ever way he is leaning to he should not forget that he came to the limelight on the shoulders of the streets with his gritty music which tell story of everyday street life. And abandoning the street at this point in time in his career would be a major mistake. In as much as he yearns for a wider audience he should be able to balance his music to be able to appeal to bothe the young and old.

The writer of the article on sugested that he take some time of music to clean up his act, i'm of the opinion that he continue making his music but be more open minded and not limit himself to one category. We the fans should also know that our artist are also Human and tend to act like it, besides 9ice is not the only Nigerian artist to come under the public eye recently, remember Wande Coal of Mo-Hits and his Naked pictures, Ikechukwu and his label Changing antics and last but not least Sauce Kid aka Sinzu comparing himself with Nas. So lets not focus only on Mr Abolore.

Please note this article represents the views of the writer and comments should be kept clean and void of insults.

Much Ado About Pastor Terry Jones And His Quran Burning

For the past few days people all around the world have been barraged from all available news media about Pastor Terry Jones and his dove world outreach centre; which plan to burn the muslim holy book on the anniversary of the september 11 bombings.

First of all we need to understand the psych of (Pastor) Terry Jones. The man is the christian version of a religious fanatic who has no respect for religion itself. He is a political hardliner who see's his role as a pastor as a medium through which he can voice his political views. A man like him is a pawn that can be used and discarded at anytime.

We now take a look at the consequences of his action the world over. Starting in my home nation of Nigeria, where religious violence erupts at the drop of a pin in the north. If he (terry jones) goes along with his plan to burn the Quran, there is sure to be violence against christians in the north if security is not beefed up. Then we look at the american soldiers in the middle east in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and on bases in Saudi Arabia and the implication his action would have on the already starined relation ship between them and the locals, and their information gathering network. If the burning of the Quran occurs the locals will not trust the Americans to even be seen talking to them let alone aide them in the war against terrorism. There will be protests' the world over and possibly violence targeted at christians. The Bible says judge not so that you will not be judged and also do unto others as you would do unto yourself. If terry jones were really a pastor he would have come across those word in the Bible.

We should also look at what the American government is doing to stop the burning the Quran on American soil. The question to ask is'' what can they do?''. The American government can only plead with Terry Jones because and attempt to force him to stop will contravene his first amendment rights. So it would be right to say that the American government is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Lets just hope that Terry Jones will bow to the pressure, but knowing the likes of Terry Jones its rather unlikely and september 11 is just a few hours away.

this south-east Asuu strike

with the current strike embarke by lecturers of south-easterns state universities. i'm being deprived of some well needed happy hours cos with the university in session i still have an excuse to still be in the east (clearance). since my graduation (not yet complete till i go for service) from the university, i've been whiling away valuable time but just as i was about to get serious wit myself, the lecturers decide that its their turn to embark on forced leave (yes strike na forced leave) and now i'm stuck in my brothers house in the most back-water town in the whole of Naija with no where to go and no friends to chat with. the only plus is that i get to eat good home cooked meals (believe me when i say that his wife is a master chef) but the downer is that i miss my girlfriend much. hopefuly the basterds (french for bastards) will negotiate with asuu and i'll head back to school and get some good stuff (you already know what i'm talking about)
