For the past few days people all around the world have been barraged from all available news media about Pastor Terry Jones and his dove world outreach centre; which plan to burn the muslim holy book on the anniversary of the september 11 bombings.
First of all we need to understand the psych of (Pastor) Terry Jones. The man is the christian version of a religious fanatic who has no respect for religion itself. He is a political hardliner who see's his role as a pastor as a medium through which he can voice his political views. A man like him is a pawn that can be used and discarded at anytime.
We now take a look at the consequences of his action the world over. Starting in my home nation of Nigeria, where religious violence erupts at the drop of a pin in the north. If he (terry jones) goes along with his plan to burn the Quran, there is sure to be violence against christians in the north if security is not beefed up. Then we look at the american soldiers in the middle east in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and on bases in Saudi Arabia and the implication his action would have on the already starined relation ship between them and the locals, and their information gathering network. If the burning of the Quran occurs the locals will not trust the Americans to even be seen talking to them let alone aide them in the war against terrorism. There will be protests' the world over and possibly violence targeted at christians. The Bible says judge not so that you will not be judged and also do unto others as you would do unto yourself. If terry jones were really a pastor he would have come across those word in the Bible.
We should also look at what the American government is doing to stop the burning the Quran on American soil. The question to ask is'' what can they do?''. The American government can only plead with Terry Jones because and attempt to force him to stop will contravene his first amendment rights. So it would be right to say that the American government is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Lets just hope that Terry Jones will bow to the pressure, but knowing the likes of Terry Jones its rather unlikely and september 11 is just a few hours away.

with the current strike embarke by lecturers of south-easterns state universities. i'm being deprived of some well needed happy hours cos with the university in session i still have an excuse to still be in the east (clearance). since my graduation (not yet complete till i go for service) from the university, i've been whiling away valuable time but just as i was about to get serious wit myself, the lecturers decide that its their turn to embark on forced leave (yes strike na forced leave) and now i'm stuck in my brothers house in the most back-water town in the whole of Naija with no where to go and no friends to chat with. the only plus is that i get to eat good home cooked meals (believe me when i say that his wife is a master chef) but the downer is that i miss my girlfriend much. hopefuly the basterds (french for bastards) will negotiate with asuu and i'll head back to school and get some good stuff (you already know what i'm talking about)
